Who we are?
Funanani Christian School
Funanani Christian School started in January of 2013 as a small, co-educational school offering Grades R, 1 and 2. [The Funanani Trust, the outreach arm of the Lewende Woord Church, was instrumental in providing both financial and infrastructural support throughout the early years of the school’s existence.]
Today, eight years later and we are now a fully-fledged, co-educational primary school, offering Grade R through Grade 7 to 220 learners from the Mamelodi and surrounding areas in Pretoria. We have a total staff complement of 19, a group of individuals for whom I have the greatest respect, a group of individuals I feel privileged to call my Funanani family.
From our humble beginnings, we have grown into an establishment of which we can be proud, with learners who reflect in their daily interactions and relationships, an understanding of the Christian values we seek to uphold within our school environment.
Since 2018, Oaktree Education has come alongside Funanani Christian School and provided support in so many ways. This support has come in the form of their management oversight, business acumen, financial assistance, educational resources, staff development opportunities, learner bursaries, human resources, technological resources and even emotional and spiritual support. This support serves to ensure that our school remains both relevant and financially sustainable in order to provide quality education.
Funanani Christian School, in partnership with OakTree Education, therefore aims to place education and a relational culture at the forefront of its priorities. Our aim is to disciple the next generation of flourishing African leaders through Christian-based education.
GROWING UP IN CHRIST
Our school motto echoes our desire to inculcate Bible-based values in our children through both the teaching and the modelling of these values, which we promote in all aspects of our educational and extra-curricular programme. The beautiful thing about this motto, is that it applies to every individual involved in the school; learners, teachers and support staff alike. We can all ‘grow’ every day to become more Christ-like.
The Bible, in the book of Isaiah chapter 61, records this beautiful promise…that Jesus would, in a characteristic exchange, grant us beauty for ashes, joy instead of sadness, and a spirit of praise instead of a spirit of heaviness…so that we, His children, may become “OAKS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, A PLANTING OF THE LORD, FOR THE DISPLAY OF HIS SPLENDOUR”!
As trees grow, slowly and solidly, with the addition of all the right nutrients, we aim to grow our children, so that they may display, like magnificent oak trees, the splendour of our awesome God! It is our dream that as they would continue on their educational journey beyond Funanani, they would become great African leaders of character and excellence who can impact their communities, their cities, our country and the world positively!
